Cilla Macquire-Samson

Biography

Cilla was a Consultant Psychiatrist in Bristol and retired 3 years ago. She was a general adult psychiatrist but also specialised in eating disorders and for a short time in gender dysphoria.

Most of her patients were teenagers and young adults so she has a wide experience of the problems that may face those in this age group. She joined the Council of Management of the BOVTS in March with a view to providing support and advice on how to help any student who may be experiencing stress or any other mental health issue.

She is also a governor for an Academy school in the south of Bristol where she has particular responsibility for special needs. She has had a life long interest in drama and theatre both as a participant and onlooker.

She sings in a local choir and her other interests include opera, music, learning a foreign language, reading and sport.

I’m constantly delighted by the talent, commitment and drive of our students. Their curiosity and joy in the work gives us all energy and keeps me on my toes! My goal is to ensure that their voices serve their acting - both in theatre and recorded media. They need to be able to project, learn accents, respond to a wide variety of texts and have a voice that is healthy and be able to sustain long tours and tough filming schedules. This involves them working extremely hard – but having fun as well. When the new students see the final year students in production for the first time I know they’ll come into class the next day fully understanding the high standard they’re working to achieve.
