Shakespeare’s wildest tale – adventure, shipwreck, corruption and romance on the high seas…

A version by Andrew Hilton and Dominic Power

Directed by Aaron Parsons

Shakespeare’s wildest tale – adventure, shipwreck, corruption and romance on the high seas…

Myteline, on the Island of Lesbos. The city brothel purchases a new girl from pirates who have abducted her from Tarsus. Young and beautiful, she’s everything the brothel’s failing business requires. Except for this: she will not ‘do the deed of darkness’.

Her virtue changes the lives of those around her, and when Prince Pericles puts in at the harbour – a man driven by misfortune into a state of catatonic disconnection from the world – she attempts to cure him by telling him her story. Unbeknown to her, the story she tells him is his own.

Pericles, Prince of Tyre is Shakespeare’s most colourful and moving tale of the triumph of the human spirit over the fickleness of fate.
