‘The world was in the way.’

Lucy and Dan finally find themselves in a hotel room. For ten years, they have lived for the climate conferences that would bring them together, waiting for the perfect moment to start their affair. Their careers progress and their families expand, and so, this never happens. Until tonight.

With just one night left at the conference and a decade of missed opportunities spurring them on, they decide tonight is the night. What they expect to be a passion fuelled night, soon derails as the conversation runs away from them and bounces from sex, to world order, to the ice slowly melting as the world heats up.

Lit only by moonlight, and driven by achingly beautiful language, Kyoto  binds the grief of Lucy and Dan’s unmet expectations with their grief for climate change, as the two stumble around in the dark, trying to find their way back to each other.
