Overview

The intensive, 7-hour Masterclass in Devising Theatre has been designed as a practical exploration of different techniques to find new stories and devise adaptations. The short course will help you develop your improvisation, ensemble and ‘storymaking’ skills. Learning will take place in a playful environment where you can participate in improvisatory theatre games and narrative driven exercises to tease out the stories you want to tell.

Bristol Old Vic Theatre School offers a fun and nurturing environment in which to pursue your creative ambitions. The support and feedback available from your tutor will help you develop your natural talents and confidence in theatre acting.

Highlights

• Engage in physical and vocal warm-ups to inspire story-telling;

• Make stories as an ensemble by drawing inspiration from your setting;

• Explore techniques such as narrative hooks, improvisation, linear and non-linear storytelling and storyboarding;

• Apply the techniques to start devising theatre projects.

This is a full-time, one-day course, running from 09:30 to 17:30. This course is taught in our rehearsal studios at Downside Road.

One of my favourite parts about BOVTS is that it feels ‘homegrown’. From the set to the costume, lighting, acting and sound, every single aspect of a theatre production or film is down to the students. The location of Clifton is so serene and the School being so small everyone knows each other and it feels so personal and special. Violet Morris, BA Professional Acting Student
