Overview

The intensive, 40-hour Acting for Stage short course has been designed as a practical introduction to the craft of theatre acting. Whether you act as a hobby or are considering full-time conservatoire training, the programme will support you in your development as a performer. You will learn how to effectively analyse both classical and contemporary scripts and acquire the practical tools to develop character independently.

Bristol Old Vic Theatre School offers a fun and nurturing environment in which to pursue your creative ambitions. The support and feedback available from your tutor will help you develop your natural talents and confidence in theatre acting.

Highlights

Gain a practical understanding of the requirements of a stage actor;

Improve your vocal quality and learn to use your voice correctly and safely;

Harness your physicality to communicate through your movement;

Rehearse and perform classical and modern drama texts to your peers.

This is a full-time, Monday to Friday course. Sessions run from 09:15 to 17:00. This course is taught in our rehearsal studios at Downside Road.

Alec Fellows Bennett

Alec is an alum of Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and has enjoyed a wide-ranging career in theatre as an actor, director and teacher. He has worked at the Royal Shakespeare Company, the National Theatre, Manchester Royal Exchange and Birmingham Old Rep, where he was Artistic Director from 2017 to 2022. Alec has taught and lectured widely at conservatoire drama schools and universities across the UK and the United States.
