The summer is always an exciting time at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School as the
students prepare for their final shows.
Graduating students have already had lots of industry meetings – this includes
stage managers and technical students, costume students, trainee scenic artists, directors and designers as well as the actors.
When you come to see our shows you’re seeing students who are just weeks away
from launching into their careers. They will very soon be in theatres up and down
the country, working in television and film – so you’ll see names cropping up in
the Radio Times and credits on screen and in theatre programmes over the coming years.
You’ll be able to find details of the forthcoming dynamic and energy-packed
season within this brochure. We start with the Directors’ Cuts Season and we
are delighted to be at the Wardrobe Theatre for the first time. We present four contemporary plays directed by our MA Drama Directing students, designed by our MA Design students, with actors from the graduating cohort all ably supported by our technical and costume students.
Following on from last year’s critically acclaimed King Lear (when Timothy West and Stephanie Cole joined with our student company), we are again collaborating with Bristol Old Vic to bring you Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar. We are delighted that Julian Glover (from Game of Thrones) and Lynn Fairleigh (from Pride and Prejudice) along with John Hartoch (who some of you may know from his work at BOVTS) will be joining our students.
Following that we’ll be at the Tobacco Factory with Mike Bartlett’s hugely
acclaimed play 13. This was first performed at the National Theatre where it garnered rave reviews. It is a powerful, passionate play set in a dystopian near
future filled with political uncertainty – it is certainly a play for our times.
Our International Acting students come from across the world to train at Bristol
Old Vic Theatre School. They will be at Circomedia in Timberlake Wertenbaker’s
The Love of the Nightingale. First performed at the RSC, this is a vivid reworking of a Greek myth with urgent contemporary resonance.
Alongside these productions, our middle year acting students are touring with
Dylan Thomas’s much loved Under Milk Wood. It’ll be blazing a trail across the
West Country during June and early July. Do catch it when you can.
We do hope that you can join us as our students prepare for their professional
