Youth Courses

ACTiv8 is the youth theatre group of the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. If you are 7 - 18 years old and looking for a term-time or holiday theatre skills experience, ACTiv8 is for you!

Course content varies with age. Exercises range from fun team-building games to more advance sessions in improvisation through to lessons in acting techniques and stage combat.

Whatever your age, you will:

What do we do?

ACTiv8 students are provided with a creative, supportive and playful environment in which to develop their skills. Sessions explore different approaches to making theatre. Each week, ACTiv8 students play warm up games, explore exercises that encourage collaboration and develop their acting technique.

Who does it?

ACTiv8 is managed by Bristol Old Vic Theatre School Graduates, Jim Rastall and Phil Sarson, whose company Troupers also runs courses in London and Leeds. Classes are led by trained actors and directors from the School and all tutors have enhanced CRB clearance.

All courses are held at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, 2 Downside Road, Clifton, Bristol BS8 2XF.

What courses are available?

ACTiv8 Sunday Youth Group 7 - 18 years (duration 10 weeks)

 

The ACTiv8 Youth Group meets every Sunday between 2.00pm and 5.15pm during the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School's term time.

ACTiv8 Juniors (School year groups 3 to 6):

 

Group 1: 2.00pm to 3.30pm £110 per term

Group 2: 3.45pm to 5.15pm £110 per term 

Fun-filled sessions of theatre games and exercises designed to ignite the imagination and encourage collaborative creativity. Play games, learn how to turn them into acting and make friends along the way!

ACT I (School year groups 7 and 8) 2.00pm to 5.00pm £160 per term

 

Explore the world of collaborative acting in a fun, entertaining and playful way. Play games, learn how to turn them into acting and make friends!

ACT II (School year groups 9 and 10) 2.00pm to 5.00pm £160 per term

 

Learn professional acting techniques in a friendly, positive environment. Students play theatre games aimed at developing their acting skills, while continuing to build the foundations of an ensemble theatre company.

ACT III (School year groups 11 - 13) 2.00pm to 5.00pm £160 per term

 

Sessions are divided into a wide range of workshops and classes covering acting techniques, voice, characterisation, improvisation, ensemble theatre, storytelling, devising, stage combat and more.

Theatre Skills Weeks 2012

ACTiv8 Theatre Skills Weeks will focus on creating a strong and supportive company dynamic, in which all can flourish. Students will learn the skills and crafts of an actor, through encouraging a good ensemble atmosphere - essential in a professional theatre company. ACTiv8 gives its company members the skills with which to make exciting, innovative and truthful theatre. Students will explore advanced acting techniques, including Stanislavski, improvisation, clowning and stage combat, whilst playing theatre games and building a good company spirit. The emphasis is on learning an actor's craft, whilst also having fun!

WEEK 1 School year groups 3 - 6: Monday 6 - Friday 10 August 10am - 4pm £175
 

WEEK 2 School year groups 7 - 10: Monday 13 - Friday 17 August 10am - 4pm £175

 

WEEK 3 School year groups 11 - 13: Monday 20 - Friday 24 August 10am - 4pm £175
 

WEEK 4 PERFORMANCE WEEK - You must have attended WEEK 3 to attend this week. The price for both WEEK 3 and WEEK 4 is £300 (a saving of £50)
