Geoffrey Brumlik

Senior Acting Tutor

Geoffrey’s original training was as an actor, with a career that included performing at a range of Canadian theatres, among them Canada’s national theatre, The Stratford Festival.

As his career progressed, Geoffrey worked increasingly as a director, and dedicated much of his professional energy to the exploration of the power of language in performance. In particular, Geoffrey has a substantial history of work on the plays of Shakespeare, as well as a career long commitment to the development and direction of strongly text based new scripts. His fascination with the power of language also led to his development of a much sought after practice as a voice and text coach.

Prior to coming to the UK, Geoffrey spent more than a decade as Artistic Associate and Associate Director at one of Canada’s major regional companies; the Citadel Theatre. Prior to that, he spent three seasons as Artistic Director of the River City Shakespeare Festival in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

As a director, his credits include the world premiere of Vern Thiessen's Lenin's Embalmers, as well a workshop production at Ensemble Studio Theatre in New York. Other directing credits include the world premiere of Shakespeare’s Will at the Citadel Theatre, Man in the Stalls, as part of the Shaw Festival Director’s project, as well as Back to Berlin at The Drilling Company in New York City. His River City Shakespeare Festival credits include productions of The Tempest, As You Like It, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Comedy of Errors.

Geoffrey holds a double Masters of Arts. He has an MFA in Voice Studies (first) from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, as well as a MA in Directing from the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.
