Angela Davies

Head of Theatre Design

Angela trained at Cardiff College of Art and received a BA Hons in Theatre Design at Nottingham Polytechnic. She won the Linbury Prize for Stage Design and continues her professional design career of 25 years.

Current design: BLUE HEART at the Tobacco Factory Theatres, Bristol.

Theatre Design includes:LIVING QUARTERS for the Tobacco Factory Theatres, Bristol and CROUCH-TOUCH-PAUSE-ENGAGE, THE DARK PHILOSOPHERS, A GOOD NIGHT OUT IN THE VALLEYS for National Theatre Wales. THE MOUSE AND HIS CHILD, VICTORIA, NIGHT OF THE SOUL, SHADOWS (Trilogy; Riders to the Sea, The Shadow of the Glen and Purgatory) for the RSC; THE MALCONTENT, HENRY VIII and THE MAID’S TRAGEDY For Shakespeare's Globe. THE SYNDICATE, THE FATHER and STAIRS TO THE ROOF (Chichester Festival Theatre). THE PRINCE OF HOMBURG and LIFE IS A DREAM (Donmar Warehouse).

Angela has worked extensively with Shared experience Theatre company on productions; BRONTE (Lyric Hammersmith), AFTER MRS ROCHESTER (Duke of Yorks), THE DOLLS HOUSE, MOTHER COURAGE, THE HOUSE OF BERNARDA ALBA, THE CLEARING. She shared a creative partnership with Director David Farr starting at the Gate Theatre and on productions including THE ODYSSEY (BOV/ Lyric Hammersmith), THE MAGIC CARPET (Lyric Hammersmith), TWELFTH NIGHT and MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM (Bristol Old Vic), and THE NATIVITY (Young Vic).

Opera Design includes; RIGOLETTO and FALSTAFF(Grange Park Opera), LA CENERENTOLA and LA GAZZA LADRE (Garsington Opera) and THE MAGIC FLUTE (Graz Opera House Opera). Angela has also Production Designed the feature film SIMON MAGUS.

Angela exhibited and lectured at the SBTD Exhibition MAKE: BELIEVE 2015 and ran a Theatre Design workshop in Lagos, Nigeria in autumn 2015, working with the British Council.

Angela has been on the panel of the JMK Directors Prize for three years and is a member of the SBTD and ACTD.

Angela is an external examiner for the MA Theatre Design Course, Wimbledon School of Art UAL and the Theatre Design courses at Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama UAL. (2017).
